We are the men and women of IBEW Local 25  We are two thousand people who have earned our living and raised our families by working in the unionized electrical construction, maintenance, and telecommunications industries on Long Island. We are your Sunday school teachers, your volunteer firemen, your civic leaders - we are the fabric of Long Island.

Local 25 has been on Long Island since 1932. We have many faces. Sometimes we are a second or third generation of craftsman whose forefathers founded our local. Sometimes we are a new recruit who came into the organization from one of the surrounding communities and sometimes we are a newly organized electrician. We have many faces - but one voice. We pride ourselves on being the finest craftspeople in the world. We are committed to ongoing training to keep our skills on the razor's edge of the newest technology, as well as passing down our knowledge to the next generation of electricians. We stand for decent wages and innovative benefits so that our members can live the American Dream. We welcome you, please click here to learn more about us.

Apprenticeship Awareness : March - April 2012

Why are Unions in politics? Unions have been in politics for more than a century. Over the years, unions have won major legislative battles that have helped to improve the lives of you and your family. It was persistent union pressure that aided the passage of the Fair Labor Standards Act (also known as the Wages and Hours Act) in June 1938. This landmark legislation established the eight hour day, 40 hour workweek, with time and a half for overtime.

IBEW 25 RETIREES COMMITTEE Update : March-April 2012

Our meeting was called to order by President Bill Harvey at 1:00pm. The Sweet Sour Notes sang and celebrated our birthdays and anniversaries. Recording Secretary Jo Usher read last month’s minutes. Peter and Mary Romano were at this meeting. Good to have Peter back with us. President Bill Harvey announced the date for thenew Retiree’s luncheon. He is also looking for someone to take over Peter Romano’s New Year’s party and July 4th hot dog luncheon. I am sure you won’t have to do both.

Safety: Hand Protection

This issue’s article deals with hand protection. As we all know, work gloves are part of the PPE that is required to be supplied by the Contractors to all workers for the safe and efficient performance of their job. If you need PPE, just ask the Foreman on the job for the form to get the gloves before you run out so that you can have them to work safely. Either that or the Foreman can just order them for you.
